Power Window Relearn Procedures Reprogramming Anti Pinch Auto Up Down Reprogramming Window Recalibration-Reset Programming Sequences

When replacing door glass on certain year, make, model vehicles special steps need to be taken in order to properly replace and reprogram the vehicle so the electric windows work properly.  Certain manufacturers require a special steps to reprogram the vehicle so that the windows work properly.  Below we will list some of the special instructions to make it easy to understand.

Acura TSX-Acura TSX:

(Note: Steps 4 thru 7 must be done within 5 seconds of each other!!)

1. Turn ignition switch to ON.
2. Lower the window by depressing the switch manually. (Pressing and Holding)
3. Open the door
4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK.
5. Push down and hold the switch.
6. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
7. Release the window switch.
8. Repeat steps 4 thru 7 three more times.
9. Wait 1 second.
10. Confirm the AUTO UP and AUTO DOWN do not work. If they work, go back to step one.
11. Lower the window all the way by pushing down the switch.
12. Pull up and hold the switch until the window reaches the fully closed position, then continue to hold the switch for one second.
13. Confirm that the power window control unit is reset.

Acura/Honda

1. Hold the switch in the up position until set in the upper channel and hold for 2-5 seconds.
2. Hold the switch in the down position until fully lowered and hold for 2-5 seconds.
3. Confirm reset through POWER UP and POWER DOWN feature.

07′ Civic 4 Door (Driver Front Door Glass)
1. Remove the battery connection for up to 30 minutes, but some say 3 minutes is enough.

Audi

1. Move the glass to the full down position.
2. Then touch the up button quickly 3 times.
3. This should reset the anti-pinch feature.

BMW 3 Series

(Note: Any brief interruption of the steps may require the entire reset to be repeated!)

1. Close both door and the soft-top or hardtop installed.
2. Disconnect and reconnect fuse 57 in the glove box.
3. Open all found windows.
4. Raise the front windows and hold the switches in the up position for at least 3 additional seconds after the window reaches the top.
5. Open the front windows 2/3 of the way down.
6. Close the rear windows completely.
7. Raise the front windows and hold the switches in the up position for at least 3 additional seconds after the window reaches the top.
8. Check whether the reset procedure was successful.

BMW 7 Series

1. Make sure window is in the full open position.
2. Close the door.
3. Press and hold the window switch all the way down for approximately 17 seconds.
4. Lift the switch and hold up.
5. Window will move up through its full travel, then down and back up again.
6. Test function of feature.

BMW Z4

(Note: Any brief interruption of the steps may require the entire reset to be repeated!)

1. Close both doors and the soft-top or hardtop installed.
2. Lower windows completely.
3. Raise the windows and hold the switches in the up position for one additional second after the window reaches the top.
4. Lower the windows approximately 4 inches.
5. Raise the windows and hold the switches in the up position for one additional second after the window reaches the top.
6. Close the windows using the one-touch function to confirm operation.

CADILLAC/HUMMER/GM

1. Hold the switch in the up position until set in the upper channel and hold for a count of 3. Listen carefully for a click.
2. Then hold the switch in the down position until fully lowered and hold for a count of 3.
3. Confirm reset thru POWER UP and POWER DOWN feature.
4. Repeat if necessary.

CHEVROLET CORVETTE

1. Close the door for the window being reinitialized.
2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
3. Run the window to the full UP position and hold the switch continuously for a minimum of 0.5 seconds.
4. Run the window to the full down position and hold the switch continuously for a minimum of 0.5 seconds.

CHRYSLER/DODGE/JEEP

1. Hold the switch in the up position until set in the upper channel and hold for at least 5 seconds.
2. Hold the switch in the down position until fully lowered and hold for at least 5 seconds.
3. Confirm reset through POWER UP and POWER DOWN feature.
4. Repeat if necessary.

INFINITI/NISSAN

1. Run window up NOT using the express feature (holding down switch).
2. On the motor is a rubber switch that looks like a plug. Push in and hold the rubber switch (plug) down while manually operating the door glass to the full down position. DO NOT use the express feature.
3. Then operate the express feature two or three more time, up and down.

Infiniti 2003-2005 G35 Coupe

1. Remove the Door Panel.

2. With the door open, lift UP and HOLD the Window Switch until the Window is fully closed.

• Do not use the Window auto-closing function
• Do not release the Switch before the Window is fully closed

3. Get inside the vehicle and close the door.

• You need to close the door so the Door Switch is fully depressed

4. Press and HOLD the Window Regulator Motor Reset Switch. While holding the Reset Switch, press DOWN and HOLD the Window Switch until the Window is fully opened.

• Do not use the Window auto-opening function
• Do not release the Switch before the Window is fully opened

5. Release the Reset Switch. Then, lift UP and HOLD the Window Switch until the Window is fully closed.

• Do not use the Window auto-closing function
• Do not release the Switch before the Window is fully closed

6. Open the Door to release the Door Switch. The Window Glass should partially move down.

7. Re-install the Door Panel.

JAGUAR

(Note: Jaguar has a window switch with a two click position switch. The first click is the manual operation and the second click is the automatic operation.)

1. Hold the window switch to the first click for the full downward travel of the glass. Continue to hold the switch until a click or popping sound is heard.
2. Repeat the above operation for the full up.
3. Check operation and repeat if necessary.

LEXUS GS300/LS400

1. Remove the power window motor from regulator.
2. Connect the power window motor connector to the vehicle side wire harness.
3. Hold the window motor switch to the UP position more than 6 turns (revolutions) or for more than 4 seconds.
4. Install the power window motor to the regulator, regulator to door and install glass.
5. Check operation.

MERCEDES- (Works on All Models)

1. Hold the switch in the up position until set in the upper channel and hold for at least 5 seconds.
2. Hold the switch in the down position until fully lowered and hold for at least 5 seconds.
3. Confirm reset through POWER UP and POWER DOWN feature.
4. Repeat if necessary.

MERCURY/LINCOLN/FORD

(Note: Steps 1-6 must be completed within 30 seconds. The entire procedure must be completed within 5 minutes)

1. Start with the ignition key in the off position and the window open.
2. Turn the iginition key to the ON position.
3. Press the front window switch to the auto position six times (Auto up or Auto down).
4. Turn the ignition switch to off position and make sure the door is open.
5. Press the front window switch to the auto up position six times (Auto up or Auto down)
6. Turn the ignition key to the ON position and close the door. The window glass will move down-up-down-up, which indicates that the window motor is in reset mode.
7. Pull and hold the window switch to the UP position until the glass stalls into the upper header seal.
8. Momentarily press the window control switch to the DOWN position and release. The window will carry out a one-touch operation until the glass stalls at the bottom of travel.
9. Pull and hold the window switch to the UP position until the glass stalls into the upper header seal. Continue to hold the switch until it carries out and down-up movement. This movement (approximately 2-3mm) indicates that the motor has been successfully reset.
10. Repeat if necessary.

Mazda 3 Automatic Window Reset:

This procedure is commonly required to be performed on a Mazda 3 vehicle with electric windows after battery disconnection.

Symptom: Upon battery reconnection, the electric windows appear to work normally if the switch is held down or up, however the ‘Auto Down’ and ‘Auto Up’ functions do not work on the driver’s window.

Reset Procedure
1. Press and hold window switch in ‘Down’ position until the window reaches its maximum downward travel and then continue to hold switch down for a further 5 seconds.
2. Press and hold window switch in “Up” position until the window reaches its maximum upward travel and then continue to hold switch up for a further 5 seconds.
3. Repeat step 1 if necessary.
4. Test ‘Auto Window’ setting for correct operation.

RANGE ROVER

1. Hold the switch in the up position until set in the upper channel and hold for 1-3 seconds.
2. Hold the switch in the down position until fully lowered and hold for 1-3 seconds.
3. Confirm reset through POWER UP and POWER DOWN feature.
4. Repeat if necessary.

Subaru- (Works on All Models)

1. No special procedures necessary. Install and run up and down.

TOYOTA LAND CRUISER / LEXUS 470

1. Run the regulator to the full down position, then remove the motor from the regulator.
2. Manually hold the button to run the motor (from full down in step #1) to full up. Repeat for 6 to 10 revolutions to trip the reset feature.
3. Re-install the motor with the regulator arm in the halfway up position.
4. Re-install the regulator assembly and install glass.
5. Raise the glass with the MANUAL function to full up (hold the button for the full duration of the glass travel).
6. Lower with the MANUAL function to full down.
7. Raise with AUTO to full up.
8. Lower with AUTO to full down.
9. Confirm operation.

TOYOTA 4RUNNER/TOYOTA HIGHLANDER

(HINT: After the reset operation, if the jam protection does not work, re-inspect the function after repeating auto-up/auto-down.)

1. Remove the power window motor from the regulator.
2. Connect the power window motor connector to the wire harness.
3. Rotate the power window motor to the UP side by more than 6 turn (revolutions) or for more than 4 seconds.
4. Install the power window motor to the regulator and install glass.
5. Check operation.

Volvo

  1. Start with the window in closed position.
  2. Then operate the controls in the manual position 3 times upwards to closed position.
  3. The system is initialised automatically.

Volkswagen Jetta 2004 and Passat

1 Put key in the door lock
2 Turn the key twice to the right and hold. The door glasses will go all the way down
3 Turn the key twice to the left and hold. The door glasses will travel all the way to the top and stay
4. Check the operation

Door Glass Replacement on a 2009 VW Passat

Volkswagen 2005-2006

1 After glass has been installed and wires connected first turn the ignition on and off again
2 Next close door window completely and continue to pull window lifter switch for 2 seconds
3 This position is the basic position which activates automatic one touch function.

Re: 2006 Jetta front door glass nightmare

You do have to reset the express up and down on these cars also. If its like most german cars, run the glass up holding the switchabout 10 seconds after it reaches the top, roll down holding the switch about 10 seconds after its down, run up again holding the switch and listen for a clicking sound.

Resetting Window Bounce-Back
Ford

Bounce-back is off until you reset the memory. Take care when closing the windows to avoid personal injury or damage to your vehicle.
If you have disconnected the battery, you must reset the bounce-back memory separately for each window.
Carry out all steps within 30 seconds of starting the sequence.

  1. Close the window.
  2. Press and hold the switch until the window is fully open. Keep the switch pressed for a few seconds.
  3. Lift and hold the switch until the window is fully closed. Keep the switch held for a few seconds.
  4. Press and hold the switch until the window is fully open. Keep the switch pressed for a few seconds.
  5. Lift and hold the switch until the window is fully closed. Keep the switch held for a few seconds.

Note: Repeat the procedure if the window does not close when you use one-touch.
